Greetings Members and Friends of and Inquirers about Calvary,
In all of the stories of Christ after his Ressurection he unexpectedly appears. No one finds the Risen Christ, he keeps appointments, but most remarkably, significantly, he drops in….we suddenly find him with us when we had no idea he was near. On Easter Sunday I encouraged you to keep your appointments, the routines of your life through which you expect to honor God as a way to welcome the Risen Christ who interupts our routines. On this third Sunday of Easter we have a demonstration of keeping appointments that promises to cultivate encounters with the Risen Christ, the living Christ. Two fellow, Cleopas being one of them were keeping some sort of appointment in Emmaus. (Luke 24:13-35). I challenge you to think about these five questions.
Are you walking with your disappointments about life with Christ?
Key thing, walking with (not away from) disappointments can invite Christ into your life in a powerful way, as they wallked along Cleopas and his partner were discussing their dissappointment with what had happened to and with Jesus.
Are you talking about your disappointments, challenges, frustrations about life with Christ with someone trusted, someone you know?
Fear of letting anyone know our doubts, frustrations and dissappointments with Jesus actually keeps Christ out of our lives….
Is there a way that a stranger, the odd person out, can get into the conversation?
Christ enters the conversation as a stranger, unrecognized….are you willing to listen to the perspective of someone you have no idea knows about the matters that puzzle and trouble you?
Are you willing to share more than ideas, are you willing to share life with this stranger?
Cleopas and his partner insist that the Stranger, Christ, stay with them for the meal….they insist that the stranger share with them in the necessities and blessing of life….the meal, bread.
When a stranger has become the presence of Christ in your life, are telling the body?
Though it was late, Cleopas and partner went all the way to Jerusalem to tell Peter and the others…our lives are finally enriched when the whole body hears about Christ dropping in to our lives.
Blessings,
