Preschool Network News

January arrived with a full calendar of events making its appearance seem sudden, sweet and short. Meetings and tours filled the first weeks as we welcomed the New Year, set priorities, made plans, and embarked on an adventurous path that would lead us through the remaining months of school. Dinner at Briganti’s on January 23 not only united Calvary families in the enjoyment of fine food, but was another successful fundraiser for the school. Later that week, directors from the local Presbyterian preschools met in the South Parlor for their monthly meeting and the CRECEF Annual Directors and Pastors’ Conference presented a further opportunity to explore leadership roles. Family conferences also began in January with parents and teachers in our youngest classrooms meeting first. At the end of January, Calvary’s Family Reading Program started up again. As it continues through the rest of the school year, all classrooms will have an opportunity to participate in this special early childhood literacy program.

Friendship, fellowship and fun will be abundant in February. On Thursday, February 1 and Friday, February 2, children, teachers and parents will wear their Calvary T-shirts to school, launching Calvary’s monthly Spirit Days. Snow blown into the bike yard on February 8 and 9 will have us all dressed up in warm winter attire, rolling snowballs, digging holes and slipping and sliding on Calvary’s Snow Days. Shortly thereafter, Valentine’s Day celebrations will warm our hearts as we trade good wishes with our friends and families. The Parent Committee will host its first monthly Parent Talks on Friday, February 16 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. with the topic of Kindergarten Readiness, a subject that many of our parents are now facing. Additionally, with priority registration complete, Calvary’s doors will open on February 10 for new families to register their children for the 2007-08 school year. It looks like we’ll once again have a full house.

Finally, plans are underway for this year’s Silent Auction. Sponsored by the Parent Committee this is the preschool’s major fundraiser. Donations are now being taken in the preschool office. If you have an item (tickets, week at a vacation home) or service that you would like to donate please contact us. Scheduled for Saturday, March 3, this is an event that you won’t want to miss. It is my pleasure to invite all members our church community to attend the Silent Auction at the home of the Biard family. For more information, please contact the preschool office. We’d love your participation and hope to see many of you there.

May you, like us, have a wonderful February!

In Peace and God’s Love,

Theresa H. Gómez,

Director, Calvary Preschool
