Mardi Gras 2008

Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is celebrated the day before the season of Lent on the church calendar. Lent is a time of repentance and renewal which might include meditation, prayer, and penitential practices. The day before lent starts, Mardi Gras, has become a day for frivolity because the days following are a time of preparation.

To make this evening really authentic, it is important that we have many "floats" for the parade. Children may use wagons or tricycles decorated as lavishly as possible. We will have some decorating items available that evening, but we encourage children to use their own imagination and supplies as much as possible. If you don't have a wagon or tricycle, dress up in costume and march between the floats. The cluster will provide beads and candy for the parade participants to throw to the enthusiastic viewers.
